Heather Ryan Selected To Verizon Academic All-District Team

INDIANAPOLIS - Junior Heather Ryan was one of 22 student-athletes selectd to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District V University Division Softball Team. This year's team was voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from District V, which encompasses Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin, as well as the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario. To qualify, student-athletes must hold at least a sophomore status, own a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.2 and be either a starter or key reserve for their team.

Ryan, who was named to the All-District Second Team is currently leading the Horizon League with a .374 batting average and is also first with a .446 on-base percentage. The psychology major from Tucson, Ariz. has come on strong as of late, hitting a blistering .436 against league opponents to go along with her team-best 18 RBI. Ryan, who was named to the All-Horizon League First Team, had a on-base streak of 23 games earlier this season.
