Bridget Paine, a starting shortstop at Butler University, was named Defensive Tournament MVP at the Fast Pitch World Series 18 & Over - East softball tournament held at Loves Park, Ill., on July 25-26.
Paine, who will be a junior at Butler this fall, helped lead the Indiana Slammers to a perfect 7-0 record and a first place finish in the 27-team tournament. The Indiana squad defeatd SGS Magic Red of Ohio for the title. Former Butler player Jenny Jacobs also played for the Slammers.
Paine started all 46 games for the Bulldogs last spring and led the team in assists with 76. She batted .221 with eight doubles and one home run. She has started 94 consecutive games in her first two seasons at Butler.
Earlier this summer, Paine earned all-tournament honors at the 9th Annual Heritage Classic State Tournament, also won by the Slammers.
