INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler women’s tennis team won the doubles point to take an early lead but Detroit got three-set victories at the top three spots to edge the Bulldogs, 4-3, Saturday afternoon.
BU won at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles in close matches to take an early 1-0 lead. Senior Becky Jenkins (No. 4 singles) and sophomore Cam Thompson (No. 6) each got singles wins, but the Titans’ wins at Nos. 1-3 singles were the difference.
Jenkins defeated UDM’s Erin Weldon 7-5, 6-3 and Thompson edged Victoria Baca 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. The rest of singles play belonged to the Titans, as Carolina Espinosa and Svetlana Flankova picked up three-set wins at No. 1 and 3 singles, respectively.
Butler (5-8, 0-1 HL) will play Saturday, March 27 at Evansville at 2 p.m.
