ATLANTA, Ga. - The Butler women's tennis team spent Spring Break in Georgia taking on some top competition. The Bulldogs traveled to Athens to face 11th-ranked Georgia and followed that with a trip to Atlanta vs. Mercer. Butler lost to Georgia, 7-0, before picking up a 5-2 win over Mercer.
Playing one of the nation's top teams, Butler fared well against Georgia. Three singles matches went into a third set, with freshmen Caroline Hedrick and Gabrielle Rubenstein and sophomore Brittany Farmer each going up a set early.
Butler rebounded quickly against Mercer, winning the doubles point and four of six in singles play. Senior Natali Jaimes and freshman Stephanie McLoughlin won in the top two spots to give BU a 3-0 lead. Junior Cam Thompson (No. 5 singles) and freshman Angelina Qin (No. 6 singles) provided Butler with a lift, with each player winning to clinch the dual match. Mercer won at Nos. 3 and 4 singles.
Butler (8-6) has now concluded non-league play. The Bulldogs are at Detroit Saturday, March 19 for their Horizon League opener. Butler's next home match is April 9 vs. Youngstown State.
