INDIANAPOLIS - Freshman Caroline Hedrick went 2-0 at No. 2 singles over the weekend to lead the Butler women's tennis team to a weekend split against Youngstown State and Cleveland State. The Bulldogs started the weekend with a 5-2 win over YSU before falling 6-1 to CSU.
Hedrick, who is now 17-7 this season and 13-5 in dual matches, rolled past YSU's Carolyn Jesko 6-3, 6-2 and then beat CSU's Alex Bush 6-3, 6-1.
Butler (12-7, 4-1) swept doubles play against the Penguins and won four of six in singles action. Hedrick and fellow freshmen Gabrielle Rubenstein and Stephanie McLoughlin and sophomore Brittany Farmer each won in straight sets.
Hedrick got her win at No. 2 singles and McLoughlin and Rubenstein picked up an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles, but the Vikings won everywhere else. Four CSU players won in straight sets and Catrine Bjerrehus edged senior Natali Jaimes at No. 1 singles in three sets.
Three home matches remain for the Bulldogs, beginning Thursday, April 14 vs. Wright State. The season concludes this weekend as Butler hosts Valparaiso and UIC.
