INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler women's tennis team moved to 5-1 in Horizon League play with a 7-0 win over Wright State. The Bulldogs won all three doubles matches handily and all six singles contests in straight sets.
"We looked a lot more comfortable playing outdoors today," head coach Jason Suscha said. "Our players have a lot of firepower and it's important that we show a little more patience outside. I think we did that today."
Freshmen Stephanie McLoughlin and Gabrielle Rubenstein won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, winning together for the 18th time this year. McLoughlin also won at No. 3 singles and Rubenstein won at the fourth singles spot.
Sophomore Brittany Farmer and freshman Caroline Hedrick won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles and then each rolled in singles play. Farmer won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles and Hedrick won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2. Hedrick is now 18-7 in singles play, with a 12-5 mark at No. 2.
Senior Natali Jaimes and freshman Angelina Qin (pronounced 'chin'), playing together for the first time, won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles. Jaimes also won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1. Junior Cam Thompson won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 to round out the blowout win. Thompson is 11-4 in singles action this year.
Butler (13-7, 5-1) has two matches remaining before playing at the Horizon League Tennis Championships in Indianapolis. Valparaiso comes to BU Saturday, April 16 and UIC follows the next day.
