INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler women's tennis team got the doubles point and four wins in singles action to defeat Xavier, 5-2, Wednesday evening. The Bulldogs have now won two straight dual matches.
"This was a really solid win for us," head coach Jason Suscha said. "The team played hard and showed good toughness. It was a good way to start this busy week."
Butler (2-3) took an early lead in the contest by winning two of three in doubles play. Senior Gabriella Bobrowski and sophomore Brittany Farmer won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles and the point was clinched when freshmen duo Gabrielle Rubenstein and Stephanie McLoughlin finished off an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles.
Xavier (3-5) won at the top of the singles lineup, but the Bulldogs swept Nos. 3-6 singles. Bobrowski (No. 4), Rubenstein (No. 5) and Farmer (No. 6) each won easily in straight sets. Freshman Caroline Hedrick added a hard-fought win at No. 3 singles, winning in three sets over Andrea Wolf.
The Bulldogs have three matches this weekend, one a make-up from last month's ice storm. BU will travel to Illinois State Friday, Feb. 25 before hosting Evansville and Dayton on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
