INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler women's tennis team has now won three straight dual matches after picking up a 5-2 win over Evansville. The Bulldogs have now beaten Xavier, Illinois State and Evansville this week, all by a 5-2 score.
"This was a quality win for us," head coach Jason Suscha said. "I'm very happy that we are able to win matches while improving. Our team is developing more confidence."
The match started with a tightly-contested set of double matches. BU's freshmen duo of Gabrielle Rubenstein and Stephanie McLoughlin dropped a close match at No. 1 doubles, but the two freshmen got help from their teammates. Gabriella Bobrowski and Brittany Farmer won a close match at No. 2 and Natali Jaimes and Caroline Hedrick won at No. 3 to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.
The bottom half of the singles lineup belonged to Butler, with Bobrowski, Rubenstein and Farmer all winning fairly handily. A key win was by Hedrick, a freshman playing No. 2 singles. After dropping her first set 6-0, she rolled past Evansville's Dora Kotsiou 6-2, 6-0 in the final two sets.
Butler's next match is at DePaul Saturday, March 5.
