INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler women's tennis team completed a 4-0 week and won its fifth straight dual match with a 6-1 win over Dayton Sunday afternoon. In five days, Butler has defeated Xavier, Illinois State, Evansville and Dayton.
"This was a nice cap to the week," head coach Jason Suscha said. "To beat four quality teams in five days shows me how tough this team is. I couldn't be more proud of our effort."
The Bulldogs, as they have done during their winning streak, got off to a good start by winning the doubles point. No. 1 freshmen duo Stephanie McLoughlin and Gabrielle Rubenstein won 9-7 and Natali Jaimes and Caroline Hedrick rolled to an 8-3 win, putting BU ahead of UD 1-0.
Butler then won five of six singles matches, with four of the victories coming in straight sets. Butler's three freshmen - Hedrick (No.2 singles), McLoughlin (No. 3) and Rubenstein (No. 5) - each posted convincing wins. Senior Gabriella Bobrowski won handily at No. 4 singles and sophomore Brittany Farmer won in three sets at the 6th spot.
Butler (5-3) will return to the court Saturday, March 5 at DePaul and at Ball State the next day. BU's next home match is set for Saturday, March 12 vs. Western Michigan.
