The Butler women's tennis team split over the weekend, picking up a league win over Detroit before falling to Saint Louis.
Butler moved to 2-1 in Horizon League play with a 5-2 win over Detroit. BU won the doubles point and four of six in singles action. Sophomores Caroline Hedrick and Stephanie McLoughlin won at the top of the lineup while senior Cam Thompson and sophomore Angelina Qin got the job done at the bottom. All four Bulldog players won in straight sets.
A key victory against the Titans came at No. 1 doubles, where McLoughlin and sophomore Gabrielle Rubenstein hung on for a 9-7 win. That win helped Butler get the doubles point and give the Bulldogs momentum.
Butler was not as fortunate against Saint Louis, falling to the Billikens 5-2. This time, it was the middle of the lineup that was successful. Rubenstein beat SLU's Mia Elmore 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Junior Brittany Farmer gutted out a three-set win over Brooke Urzendowski.
Five dual matches remain this season for the Bulldogs. BU is at Wright State Saturday, April 7.
