INDIANAPOLIS - Two Butler sophomores have earned All-Horizon League honors. Caroline Hedrick and Stephanie McLoughlin were honored in a vote by the league's women's tennis coaches.
Hedrick, the team's No. 1 singles player, earned first-team honors after battling through a season in which she missed a few matches due to injury. When she returned, she won four matches against league opponents and finished the regular season with 12 wins. She also added a victory in the league tournament against Wright State.
The Columbus, Ind., native also posted an 11-8 doubles record before the league tourney. She mostly played No. 2 doubles with junior Brittany Farmer. The duo went 3-2 in conference play.
McLoughlin, from Toronto, Canada, was a second team All-Horizon League selection. She won 13 singles matches this year while mostly playing No. 2. She also played six times in the top spot while Hedrick was out injured.
Where McLoughlin has thrived at Butler has been at No. 1 doubles. Playing with teammate Gabrielle Rubenstein, the combo went 19-11 and 6-2 in league play. McLoughlin won 20 doubles matches overall this season.
UIC's Mariya Kovaleva was voted Horizon League Player of the Year. Youngstown State's Marta Burak was the league's newcomer of the year.
