MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Senior Cam Thompson and sophomore Gabrielle Rubenstein each picked up a first-round singles win in the qualifying rounds of the ITA Regional in Memphis, Tenn. Both Bulldogs fell in the second round.
Thompson defeated Wright State's Amy Nini in straight sets 6-0, 7-5. Rubenstein picked up a 6-0, 6-4 win against Louisville's Amelia Harris. Both players are now 6-2 in singles play this fall.
Junior Brittany Farmer and sophomore Angelina Qin also competed, losing in the first round. Farmer was up a set on Stefanie Villajuan of Louisville before Villajuan rallied to win.
Butler went 0-2 in qualifying doubles.
In all, six players from Butler are at the ITA event in Memphis. Rubenstein, Thompson, Farmer and Qin were in the qualifying bracket and sophomores Caroline Hedrick and Stephanie McLoughlin were in the main draw. Hedrick and McLoughlin will start play Saturday, Oct. 15.
