Bulldogs Set For A-10 Women's Tennis Championship


CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Butler women's tennis team will compete in its first and last Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship this weekend in Charlottesville, Va. The Bulldogs will be the tourney's No. 13 seed and will play No. 4 seed Richmond.

Richmond and Butler will battle Thursday, April 18 at Boar's Head Country Club at 9 a.m. It is the first all-time meeting between the Bulldogs and the Spiders. All 16 A-10 teams have an entry in the women's tennis tourney.

The Bulldogs (4-16) are led by junior Caroline Hedrick, who owns 15 singles wins. That includes a 4-1 record at No. 1 singles. Senior Brittany Farmer, who has played the majority of the season at No. 3 singles, boasts a team-high 12 doubles wins. 

VCU, ranked 38th in the nation in the most recent ITA rankings, is the tournament's top seed. Xavier and Massachusetts are the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds, respectively. The winner of the tournament, which ends Sunday morning, will gain an automatic bid into the 2013 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship.
