MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Butler women's tennis team competed in the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships over the weekend at The Racquet Club of Memphis.
The doubles team of Caroline Hedrick and Kailey Eaton lost their doubles main draw first round matchup to Sanders and Moore of Ball State 8-2, but the duo came back to record two wins in the back draw over teams from Vanderbilt and Kentucky.
Butler cruised to a 6-1 victory over Leavell and Selllyn of Vanderbilt to move on in the back draw. The team also defeated Fox and Lewis of Kentucky 6-5 (5). The winning streak came to a halt as Morin-Kougoucheff and Sutjiadi of Kentucky defeated Hedrick and Eaton 6-2 on Sunday. The Kentucky tandem went on to win the back draw doubles bracket on Monday morning.
Two Bulldogs represented Butler in singles action as Hedrick ran into the No. 4 seed in the singles main draw on Saturday. Mara Schmidt of Purdue defeated Hedrick 6-1, 6-0. Hedrick would finish the weekend with a 6-2, 6-1 setback to Saioa Oscoz of Eastern Kentucky on Sunday.
Stephanie McLoughlin was also in action over the weekend as she competed against Chloe Heerden of Miami OH in singles qualifying competition. Heerden defeated McLoughlin in an exciting three-set match 6-7, 6-3, 6-2.
The Ohio Valley Regional was the last fall match on the schedule for the Bulldogs as the team returns to action against Robert Morris (Chicago) in the season opener on Jan. 18.
