INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler women's tennis team got off to a good start to the 2014 season with a 7-0 sweep over Robert Morris University (IL) on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs took the doubles point with two impressive wins and then swept each opponent in straight-sets during singles competition.
The top doubles team of Stephanie McLoughlin and Kailey Eaton earned a 6-1 win over Stephanie Messina and Rocio Rapallo Fernandez. Angelina Qin and Sienna Reuter formed the No. 2 Doubles team for Butler and ended up giving the 'Dogs a point with a 7-5 win over Miranda Biatriz and Maria Bellorin.
McLoughlin and Eaton were at the top of the lineup on Saturday with McLoughlin earning a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 Singles and Eaton defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot.
No. 3 Singles featured a 6-3, 6-3 win from Angelina Qin and Jocelyn Koester took down Maria Bellorin 6-2, 6-1 in No. 4 Singles.
Grace Hyde was yet another Bulldog to record a straight-set win as she came out on top with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Page Seldal in No. 5 Singles. The sixth spot was a default win by Butler.
The Bulldogs will end the month of January with a match at Eastern Michigan on Friday Jan. 24 and at Western Michigan the following day on the 25th. Each match will begin at 1:00 p.m.
