YPSILANTI, Mich. – Butler is now 1-1 overall early in the 2014 season after Easter Michigan handed the women's tennis team their first loss of the year. The Bulldogs took a 7-0 loss at the Chippewa Racquet Club with each Eagle student-athletes taking control of their singles match in straight-sets.
Eastern Michigan (3-1) earned the doubles point with three early wins that put momentum on their side. Stephanie McLoughlin and Kailey Eaton represented the 'Dogs in No. 1 Doubles, but were ultimately defeated 6-1.
No. 3 Doubles was the next court to clear as EMU took a 6-1 win over Jocelyn Koester and Sienna Reuter. Doubles play came to an end with Grace Hyde and Angelina Qin taking a 6-2 setback in No. 2 Doubles.
Individual results also went to the Eagles giving the team the 7-0 sweep. Qin and Koester were the first two to finish with Qin falling 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 Singles and Koester taking a 6-0, 6-1 loss at No. 4.
Sienna Reuter was in action at No. 6 Singles finishing the day with a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Maria Paula Ribero.
The final three Bulldogs in action found limited success versus their opponent with Eaton taking a 6-1, 6-3 loss at No. 2 Singles and McLoughlin suffering a 6-1, 6-3 setback at the No. 1 spot.
Rounding out the action for BU on Friday afternoon was Hyde who fell 6-3, 6-1 vs. Daphne Friedrichs at No. 5 Singles.
The Bulldogs will travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. for a match against Western Michigan tomorrow, Jan. 25. Action is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
