INDIANAPOLIS – The Detroit Titans earned a 6-1 win over the Butler women's tennis team on Sunday. Stephanie McLoughlin was responsible for the lone win of the day as she held off Nino Sujashvili in No. 1 Singles 6-4, 7-5.
"The girls fought hard and I am happy with their effort," Head Coach Tayo Bailey said. "This week will be busy with matches and I expect them all to continue to get better as the season progresses."
All three matches in doubles competition went to Detroit with McLoughlin and Kailey Eaton losing 6-2 at No. 1, Angelina Qin and Konstantina Adami losing 6-1 at No. 2, and finally the team of Grace Hyde and Jocelyn Koester falling 6-1 at No. 3.
Adami put forward a strong effort for Butler at No. 3 Singles. She lost the first set 6-4, but came back to win a tiebreaker 7-6 at set two. The final decision would go to Detroit however as Irina Slizovskaya won 10-6.
Kailey Eaton represented Butler at No. 2 Singles with Grace Hyde taking the court at No. 5. Eaton lost 6-0, 6-1 and Hyde was defeated 6-2, 6-1.
Other Bulldogs in action Sunday included Qin at No. 4 Singles and Koester at No. 6. Qin was defeated 6-1, 6-4 and Koester was setback 6-2, 6-4.
