INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler women's tennis team split a pair of matches on Friday by taking a 5-2 loss in the morning to Southeast Missouri State and a 4-3 win over Indianapolis later in the afternoon.
Stephanie McLoughlin won two matches on the day at No. 1 Singles taking a tiebreaker victory (7-5, 4-6, 10-2) over Valeriia Kashina of SEMO and ending the day with yet another tiebreaker win over Allie Smith of UINDY (6-3, 5-7, 10-8).
McLoughlin was one of just two players to earn a singles win vs. SEMO as Jocelyn Koester came up with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6 Singles.
SEMO was able to record the win by recording two huge victories over Butler at No. 4 and No. 5 Singles. Angelina Qin and Grace Hyde were in action for Butler on those courts and each player easily won their opening set. SEMO battled back to send the action into a tiebreaker format and their momentum carried over as each visitor recorded a win. Qin fell 1-6, 6-4, 10-8 at No. 4 Singles and Hyde was knocked off 0-6, 6-2, 10-6 at No. 5 Singles.
The Bulldogs didn't win a double match vs. SEMO, but they picked up the point vs. UINDY with a pair of victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. McLoughlin and Kailey Eaton came up clutch at the No. 1 spot with a 7-5 victory. The first win was recorded by Hyde and Konstantina Adami at No.2 (6-1).
Adami and Eaton were huge in the win over UINDY as each player earned a victory in straight-sets to secure the 4-3 team win. Adami won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 Singles and Eaton was a 7-5, 6-3 winner at No. 3.
The team will travel to Bloomington to face the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday and end the weekend with a home match at the Butler Bubble vs. Illinois State.
