Green Bay, Wis. - The Butler women's tennis team made short work of host Green Bay in its first Horizon League of the season, as the Bulldogs ousted the Phoenix, 7-0, for their first dual meet victory of the spring on Friday (Feb. 15).
Butler swept through the three doubles matches for the first point of the bout before claiming all six singles battles, including five in straight sets.
Sophomores Molly Casperson and Becky Jenkins teamed up for a dominant 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles over Kelly Stadum and Laura Bartingale, while Tiffany McLoughlin and Michelle Hawes scored the clinching win at No. 3 with an 8-2 decision over Callee Conda and Kari Petrashek. Freshmen Natali Jaimes and Gabriella Bobrowski added an 8-4 win at No. 1.
The Bulldogs then put up a convincing showing in singles play, with five of the six matches ending two sets. Casperson and McLoughlin each posted perfect 6-0, 6-0 performances, with the former topping Emily Lawent at No. 1 and the later defeating Conda at No. 5.
Jaimes at No. 2, Bobrowski at No. 3 and Hawes at No. 6 each scored 6-2, 6-0 decisions in their respective matches, while Jenkins rebounded from a 6-4 opening-set defeat to finish with a 6-2 second set win and a 10-1 tie-breaking victory.
The Bulldogs continue Horizon League play on Saturday (Feb. 16) when they take on Milwaukee beginning at 3:00 p.m. ET.
