Muncie, Ind. - Butler scored wins in four singles bouts, including a match-clincher at No. 6 by senior Michelle Hawes, to hold off host Ball State, 4-3, for its fourth-straight dual meet victory on Wednesday (March 5) afternoon.
After the Cardinals brought the match even at 3-3 with a win at No. 5 singles, Hawes battled back from an opening set 6-2 defeat to score a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 and help give the Bulldogs their sixth win in the last seven contests.
Ball State staked itself to an early 1-0 advantage, as the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles tandems came out on top to give the Cardinals the opening point.
Butler came back in singles play, however, as Gabriella Bobrowski got things going with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 before Molly Casperson notched a 7-5, 6-3 decision at No. 1. Natali Jaimes followed with a gutsy 7-6 (0), 6-2 showing at No. 2 to put the Bulldogs in front 3-2.
A win at No. 5 by the Cardinals evened the scoring before Hawes rallied for the deciding point.
Butler returns to action on March 21 when it heads to Evansville for a 2:00 p.m. match.
