Women's Tennis Holds Off EIU In Exhausting 6-1 Match

Indianapolis, Ind. - Butler had to work for every single point it earned against a gritty Eastern Illinois team on Friday (March 6) evening, as the Bulldogs needed all three sets in four of the top five singles bouts to claim their five wins in a 6-1 triumph over the Panthers at the Butler Bubble.

After claiming victories in the top two doubles positions to earn the first point of the match, Butler went on to pull out a quintet of grueling singles bouts to secure the victory.

Natali Jaimes started things off with a tough win at No. 1, working a 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) decision. Both Molly Casperson and Becky Jenkins needed to rally back from opening set defeats at the No. 2 and No. spots, as Casperson reeled off a 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 decision at the second position, while Jenkins came back for a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 win at the third.

Gabriella Bobrowski and Cam Thompson, meanwhile, secured first set wins before falling in exhausting second sets only to recover in the third to preserve their victories. Bobrowski notched a 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1 win at No. 4, while Thompson tallied a 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-7) triumph at No. 5.

Butler returns to action on Sunday (March 8) when it heads South Carolina for a match-up with the College of Charleston.
