Indianapolis, Ind. - A decision at the No. 6 singles bout proved to be the difference in a closely contested match, as visiting Evansville escaped with a 4-3 win over the Bulldogs on Saturday (March 21) afternoon at the Butler Bubble.
The Bulldogs rallied from a loss in the doubles point to battle back to even at 3-3 with one match to go, but the Purple Aces held on for a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 6 to secure the win.
Becky Jenkins got Butler on the board first with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 before a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 2 by Gabriella Bobrowski brought the Bulldogs even at 2-2. UE took a win at No. 3 to take a 3-2 lead, but Cam Thompson notched a 6-4. 6-2 win at No. 5 to force the deciding point at the sixth spot.
Butler returns to action on Sunday (March 22) when it hosts Horizon League rival Valparaiso beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Butler Bubble.
