Indianapolis, Ind. - After nearly two months of playing against non-league opponents, the Butler women's tennis team kicked off the Horizon League campaign with a bang, trumping visiting Valparaiso, 6-1, on Sunday (March 22) afternoon at the Butler Bubble.
The Bulldogs notched the first point of the match by sweeping through doubles play.
The No. 3 tandem of Cam Thompson and Ashley Breitenbach opened the scoring by cruising to an 8-0 sweep. Natali Jaimes and Gabriella Bobrowski teamed up for an 8-2 victory at No. 2, while Molly Casperson and Becky Jenkins closed out the scoring with an 8-3 win at the top spot.
The dominance continued in singles play, as the Bulldogs rolled to two-set decisions at each of the top five positions.
Jenkins swept her way to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Katie Bilyeu at the No. 4 spot, while Bobrowski added dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Molly Keifer at No. 2.
Casperson scored a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3, Jaimes added a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 and Thompson chipped in a 6-4, 6-1 decision at No. 5.
Butler steps away from league play on Wednesday (March 25) when it hosts Xavier beginning at 3:00 p.m.
