Indianapolis, Ind. - On a day in which the Bulldogs' seniors were honored for their past contributions during their careers, Butler senior Michelle Hawes added to her list of accolades, scoring a two-set win at No. 6 singles to seal a 4-3 decision over Cleveland State on Sunday (April 6) at Park Tudor High School.
With the match tied at 3-3, Hawes came through with a strong showing at the No. 6 position, rolling to a 6-3, 6-1 victory to help give the Bulldogs their eighth-straight win and a 6-0 record against Horizon League foes.
Butler scored the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Gabriella Bobrowski and Natali Jaimes notched an 8-2 win at the top spot before Molly Casperson and Becky Jenkins added an 8-3 decision at No. 2.
Casperson got things going for the Bulldogs in singles play, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1.
The Vikings would rally with three-straight wins at No. 3, 4 and 5 before Jaimes scored a 6-4, 7-6 (8) win at No. 2 to bring the bout even at 3-3 and set up Hawes' heroics.
Prior to the match, seniors Hawes and Tiffany McLoughlin were recognized for their achievements during their careers with the Bulldogs.
Butler returns to action on Friday (April 11) when it hosts league-foe Detroit beginning at 1:00 p.m.
