Indianapolis, Ind. - No. 5 seeded Youngstown State scored a pair of crucial wins in doubles play for the first point of the match before securing victories in three singles bouts to claim a 4-2 decision over No. 2 seeded Butler in the battle for third place at the Horizon League Championship on Sunday (April 26) afternoon at North Central High School.
The No. 1 tandem of Molly Casperson and Becky Jenkins scored an 8-3 victory over Sarah Lynch and Gretchen Cloern, but YSU would pick up an 8-3 win of its own at No. 3 before clinching the first point with an 8-6 decision at No. 2.
Casperson and Jenkins would each tally victories in singles play, as Casperson defeated Anna Volkova at No. 3, 6-1, 6-3, while Jenkins ousted Tanisha Welch, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot. The Penguins notched the final points they needed to get the win, however, finishing with wins at No. 2, 5 and 6.
