Indianapolis, Ind. - The Butler women's tennis team wasted little time in securing a return trip to the Horizon League Championship bout, as the Bulldogs swept their way to a 4-0 victory over Detroit in the semifinals of the league tournament on Sunday (April 26) at the North Central High School tennis courts.
The No. 2 seed Bulldogs move on to the championship match against top-seeded UIC beginning at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday (April 27).
Butler jumped for the first point in the match with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Molly Casperson and Becky Jenkins led the way with a convincing 8-1 victory at the second position before Michelle Hawes and Tiffany McLoughlin scored an 8-2 decision at the third spot to secure the doubles point.
The Bulldogs continued to roll in singles play, as Hawes tallied her 11th-straight victory at the No. 6 position with a swift 6-2, 6-0 triumph. Casperson added a 6-1, 6-4 win at the top spot, while Jenkins scored the match-clincher with a 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 4.
Butler will try for its first-ever league championship against the Flames on Sunday morning.
