Muncie, Ind. - Natali Jaimes, Becky Jenkins and Cam Thompson each scored four victories in singles play en route to flight championships at the Ball State Fall Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 27) afternoon.
Jaimes rolled to three-straight wins in the Flight A bracket before claiming the deciding victory in the championship bout against fellow Bulldog Molly Casperson. After scoring back-to-back straight-set wins in her first two matches, Jaimes held off a tough challenge in a semifinals bout against Amy Recht of IPFW to score a 6-0, 7-6 (6) decision to advance to the title round. There, she topped Casperson, 6-4, 6-4.
Jenkins, meanwhile, worked out a tough 6-1, 7-6 (2) win over league-foe Sammi Schoen of Milwaukee before topping Dayton's Nikki Dzubay, 7-5, 6-2. The Butler junior took control of things from there, scoring a dominant 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals before working another 6-1, 6-2 decision in the championship match against Yuka Kobayashi of IPFW.
Thompson looked down-right impressive in her first showing with the Bulldogs, working four-straight wins in the Flight C Singles bracket for the championship. After taking straight-set wins in the first two bouts, she edged out Jenna Felsher of Milwaukee in the semifinals in a tough 6-3, 2-6, 11-9 bout. Thompson finished her run in the finals, cruising past the Panther's Megan Gow, 6-4, 6-1.
The junior Casperson added a pair of wins in the top singles flight, scoring two-set wins against IPFW and Dayton. Sophomore Gabriella Bobrowski also scored two wins in the B flight, defeating players from Wright State and Milwaukee, while junior Valerie Vinluan added two victories of her own in the D flight.
Butler returns to action on Oct. 23 when it opens up the ITA Regional in East Lansing, Mich.
