Indianapolis, Ind. - After picking up wins in both doubles and singles competition last weekend in the Bulldogs' spring opener, junior Becky Jenkins was named the Horizon League's Women's Tennis Player of the Week. The league office made the announcement on Wednesday (Jan. 21).
In Butler's home opener against Indiana State on Saturday (Jan. 17), the Elmhurst, Ill., native teamed up with fellow junior Molly Casperson for an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles to give the Bulldogs' their deciding point in doubles play. She followed up that performance with an impressive 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles to help Butler claim a 4-3 victory over the Sycamores.
The recognition is the first weekly honor bestowed to Jenkins in her career and the first for the Bulldogs this season. Last year, Butler claimed nine players of the week awards from the league.
The Bulldogs return to action on Jan. 31 when they host Dayton beginning at 1:00 p.m.
