Indianapolis, Ind. - After putting up impressive showings in a pair of matches last week, Butler men's tennis player Ben Raynauld and women's player Cam Thompson were named the Horizon League Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week. The league office made the announcement on Tuesday (March 24).
Raynauld teamed up with Lenz Theodor for a pair of strong wins in doubles play last week. The duo scored an 8-0 sweep over Indiana State before notching the Bulldogs' only doubles victory against Illinois State. In singles play, Raynauld rebounded from a close 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 defeat against the Sycamores to score an impressive 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 over a tough Redbird squad.
Thompson, meanwhile, went undefeated at singles and doubles play last week. She teamed up with Ashley Breitenbach at No. 3 doubles for an 8-6 triumph over Evansville before scoring a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles against the Purple Aces. The following day, she paired with Breitenbach for an 8-0 sweep at No. 3 against Valparaiso before tallying a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.
The award is Raynauld's fourth of his career and the team's first of the season.
Thompson earns the award for the first time in her career and is the third Butler women's player to receive the honor this year. Natali Jaimes was recognized twice during the fall, while Becky Jenkins picked up the award at the start of the spring.
