Sophomore Christina Laun and senior Brandon Currie were named the Horizon League Tennis Players of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Laun went 2-0 in singles action, picking up wins against her Detroit and Louisville counterparts, and went 1-1 in doubles. Currie won both his singles and doubles match against Valparaiso, improving his record to 21-11 at No. 1 singles and 15-8 at No. 1 doubles.
Laun was named the women's tennis player of the week after going 2-0 in No. 2 singles action on the weekend. Laun defeated Louisville's Kelly Kiehns 6-0, 6-1 on Saturday (Mar. 22) and then knocked off Detroit's Andrea Buter 6-3, 6-1 on Sunday. Laun and doubles partner Molly Figel went 1-1 in No. 1 doubles on the weekend, downing the Titans' Vicki Parker and Bianca Savarino 8-6, but losing to Louisville's Melija San Martin and Kiehns 8-5.
Brandon Currie and teammate Jimmy Borendame teammed up to take a 9-8 (4) win over Valparaiso's Nate Buckert and Nick Vuko in No. 1 doubles. Currie also improved his all-time school record mark to 107 singles wins by defeating Buckert 6-2, 6-3 in No. 1 singles play.
