UP NEXT: The Butler women's tennis team will host Youngstown State in a Horizon League match on Saturday (Apr. 6). Match time is slated for 10 a.m. in the Butler Bubble. The Bulldogs currently stand at 7-9 overall and maintain a 2-0 record in league matches with wins over Cleveland State (7-0) and Detroit (7-0) earlier in the season.
ON A ROLL: The Bulldogs posted their third and fourth consecutive victories last week with non-league wins over Eastern Illinois (6-1) and St. Louis (4-3). After starting out the season 0-4, Butler has won five of its last seven matches, including three by a decisive 7-0 score.
BACK IN ACTION: Just weeks after returning to the court after being sidelined for most of the season with a back injury, senior Olivia Pedro made her presence known by breaking a 3-3 tie against St. Louis and winning her singles match 6-2, 6-1 to give Butler its seventh victory of the season.
FIGEL'S FEELING IT: Senior Molly Figel had an outstanding week on the court, as she posted two wins at No. 3 singles and tallied a pair of wins with partner Christina Laun in No. 1 doubles action. Figel defeated Eastern Illinois' Shari Freeman 6-4, 6-1 and then beat St. Louis' Amy O'Handley 6-2, 6-1 the following day. Figel and Laun took a convincing 8-0 win over the Panthers' Beth Carlson and Ann Lenfert and slipped past the Billikens' Julie Siemers and O'Handley 9-8 (4).
AWESOME ANNIE: Sophomore Annie Gantz also recorded a pair of singles and doubles victory on the week. The Greenwood, Ind. native knocked off EIU's Kristen Martin 6-1, 6-1 and the Billikens' Rebecca Steer 6-2, 6-0 in No. 6 singles and teamed up with Jaci Hoffman to tally an 8-6 victory over the Panthers' Yolanda Widyandharma and Martin in No. 3 doubles.
