Indianapolis, Ind. - After going undefeated in singles and doubles last weekend, Butler sophomores Molly Casperson and Ben Raynauld were named the Horizon League's Women's and Men's Tennis Players of the Week. The league office made the announcement on Tuesday (April 8).
Casperson finished 2-0 at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles in helping the women's team to two league wins over the weekend. She teamed with Becky Jenkins for an 8-0 sweep at doubles before scoring a convincing 6-0, 6-4 win in singles at Valparaiso. Two days later versus CSU, she and Jenkins scored the clinching doubles point with an 8-3 win before posting an impressive 6-0, 6-1 win in singles play.
Raynauld went 2-0 at both No. 2 singles and doubles in helping the men's squad to a pair of league wins. He teamed up with Bryce Warren for a dominant 8-0 win in doubles play against Youngstown State before notching a swift 6-1, 6-1 win at singles. A day later against CSU, he and Warren scored an 8-4 victory in doubles before scoring another two-set singles decision with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph.
Casperson earns the award for the second straight week after nabbing her first of the season on April 1. Raynauld, meanwhile, receives the award for the third time this season (Feb. 27 and March 25).
It is the eighth and ninth time this season that a Bulldog tennis player has been honored with the league's weekly award and the second-straight week in which both athletes were from Butler.
The women's tennis team heads to Detroit on Friday (April 11) to battle the Titans at 8:00 p.m. The men's team, meanwhile, remains idle until April 18.
