Weekly Notes: Women's Tennis

UP NEXT: The Butler women's tennis team will travel to Dayton, Ohio on Saturday (Apr. 13) to take on Horizon League rival Wright State at 10:30 a.m. The Bulldogs (8-9) are currently 3-0 in league action, as they have blanked each opponent - Cleveland State, Detroit and Youngstown State - by a 7-0 tally.
ENDING THE STREAK: The Bulldogs saw their five-match winning streak come to a halt on Monday, when Butler narrowly lost to Xavier, 4-3, in a non-league match. Xavier won all three doubles matches, taking the doubles point, and then won three of the six singles matches.
QUITE A CHAMPION: Senior Mindy Champion posted victories in both singles matches on the week, defeating Youngstown State's Jenn Meister 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (5) and knocking off Xavier's Lindsay Oressman 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 in No. 5 singles. Sophomores Christina Laun and Laurel Clements also won both of their singles matches on the week.
PEDRO POWER: Senior Olivia Pedro captured victories in both singles and doubles play against league foe Youngstown State on Saturday. The Batesville, Ind. native, who battled a back injury throughout the beginning of the spring season, defeated the Penguins' Sarah Rothenberg 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 in No. 4 singles. Pedro and doubles partner Amy Steiner then went on to capture an 8-1 triumph over YSU's Jenn Meister and Heather Hagood in No. 2 doubles.
