Butler Places Four on All-Horizon League Teams

Butler junior Alaina Griffin appears on her third consecutive "All-Horizon League" first team, while teammate Tayo Bailey earned the honor for the second consecutive season. Freshman Michelle Hawes and sophomore Shaden Dowiatt earned second-team league honors, which were announced at the pre-championship banquet Friday (April 22) evening. The league's head coaches voted on the awards. UIC and Butler each placed four student-athletes on the All-Horizon League Teams.

Griffin posted an 18-13 singles record already this season, while Bailey has won 11 straight singles matches to run her record to 24-10 this season. Each has won the Horizon League "Player of the Week" award at least once this season.

Cleveland State's Sarah Galon is the Player of the Year after earning Newcomer of the Year honors last season. UIC's Grace Gill-Morlis earned Newcomer of the Year accolades. This season's Coach of the Year honors are shared by Shannon Tully of UIC and Michele Grim of Youngstown State. UIC will be in search of its ninth consecutive Horizon League title.

The 2005 Horizon League Men's and Women's Tennis Championships will be held this weekend (April 23-24) at North Central High School in Indianapolis. Butler, the third seed in the tournament, will open the championships Saturday morning against sixth-seeded Detroit at 9 a.m.
