Weekly Notes: Women's Tennis

CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND: The Butler women's tennis team will participate in the upcoming Horizon League Championships held at North Central High School (Indianapolis) on Apr. 27-28. The Bulldogs (11-11), who are the No. 2 seed in the tournament, will take on seventh-seeded Cleveland State in the first round on Saturday morning. The winner of that quarterfinal match will take on the winner of No. 3 Wright State and No. 6 Detroit that afternoon. The championship match will take place on Sunday at 9 a.m.
A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN: The Bulldogs had a great Horizon League season, finishing with a 6-1 record. Butler's lone loss came at the hands of top-seeded UIC on Apr. 19, when the Flames defeated the Bulldogs by a 7-0 score. Butler's most recent league victories came against UW-Green Bay (6-1) and UW-Milwaukee (7-0). In addition to the Bulldogs' 7-0 sweep over the Panthers on Apr. 21, Butler also swept league rivals Cleveland State, Detroit and Youngstown State by a 7-0 score.
MY CLEMENTINE: Sophomore Laurel Clements had a solid week on the court, going 2-1 on the weekend. She posted straight set wins against UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. The Waverly, Ky. native won both matches 6-0, 6-0, and also teamed up with Mindy Champion to post an 8-1 victory over the Phoenix's No. 3 doubles team. Clements' only loss on the week came against UIC as she fell 6-1, 6-3 in No. 6 singles.
