Indianapolis, Ind. - After rolling to four dominant victories in the top singles bracket at the Ball State Fall Invitational, Butler sophomore Natali Jaimes was named the Horizon League's Women's Tennis Player of the Week. The league office made the announcement on Wednesday (Oct. 1).
Jaimes rolled to four-straight victories in the top singles flight of the tournament last weekend to earn the flight championship. She scored a 6-3, 6-4 win over Lilian Asuaje of Northern Illinois and a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Milwaukee's Kelly Drvaric to advance to the semifinals, where she ousted Amy Recht of IPFW by a 6-1, 6-3 score. In the title bout, she faced the Bulldogs' top singles player in Molly Casperson and defeated her teammate 6-0, 7-6 (6).
Jaimes also teamed up with Gabriella Bobrowski in doubles competition and picked up a pair of wins in the Flight B pool.
"Natali had an excellent week of practice leading up to the tournament, and I'm happy she was able to keep it going through the weekend," head coach Jason Suscha said. "I'm excited for our whole team as we had excellent tournament, and Natali playing the way she did makes our entire team stronger."
The Butler women's tennis team returns to action on Oct. 23 when it takes part in the ITA Regionals in East Lansing, Mich.
