Indianapolis, Ind. - After advancing to a pair of singles championship matches and going undefeated in doubles play at two tournaments, Butler sophomore Becky Jenkins has been named the Horizon League Women's Tennis Player of the Week. The league office made the announcement on Wednesday (Oct. 3).
Jenkins went 6-1 in singles play and 5-0 in doubles play in the last two weekends while playing at the Aces Fall Classic and the Ball State Fall Invitational.
The Elmhurst, Ill. native scored three wins in the Flight C bracket of the Aces Fall Classic (Sept. 21-22) to advance to the championship match which was not played since her foe would have been teammate Gabriella Bobrowski. A week later, she swept through the Flight B bracket of the Ball State Fall Invitational and once again reached the championship match before taking her first singles defeat of the season.
Jenkins also teamed up with teammate Molly Casperson in doubles competition and finished as Flight B doubles champs at the Aces Fall Classic and Flight A champions at the Ball State Invite.
Jenkins is the first Butler tennis player to earn the league's weekly honor this season.
The Bulldogs conclude their fall season at the ITA Regionals in Ann Arbor, Mich. from Oct. 18-21.
