Result: Butler def. Chicago State 25-11, 25-14, 25-12
CHICAGO - The Butler volleyball team hit .421 and made quick work of Chicago State Thursday evening, 3-0, at CSU's Dickens Center. Butler is now 16-7 on the season and will head to UIC Friday night.
Senior Jessica Wolfe led the Dawgs with 15 kills and 14 digs, hitting .536 with no attack errors. Freshman Claire Randich had nine kills on 13 swings, and the match only took 62 minutes. As a team, BU had just five attack errors.
Strong and aggressive serving controlled this match," head coach Sharon Clark said. "Jessie Wolfe played well all around and Katie Daprile was digging and passing well. Claire was an offensive weapon, hitting .692."
After Chicago State called timeout down 13-6, BU continued to build a lead to 22-9. Randich and Wolfe would finish the 25-11 set with one kill each.
The second set would be CSU's best, as the Cougars (0-27) pulled to within 14-12 at one point. A 7-1 Butler run made it 21-13 and the Bulldogs would finish the set 25-14. Butler would continue that into the third set, leading 11-2 early and continuing to dominate the match. A pair of kills by Wolfe and a Randich service ace put on the finishing touches in the clinching 25-12 set.
CSU hit just. 081 compared to BU's .421. Every Bulldog saw action in the match, with nine players registering a point.
Butler (16-7, 10-1) will return to Horizon League play Friday night at UIC at 8 p.m. ET. It is the final league road match for the Bulldogs, who are tied for first in the league standings with Milwaukee.
