INDIANAPOLIS - Senior Jessica Wolfe has been named Horizon League Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week after leading Butler to three league road wins last week. It is the second time this season and the third time in her career she was won the award.
Wolfe had 67 kills (4.19 per set) and 52 digs (3.25 per set) during Butler's four-match road swing last week. The Bulldogs went 3-1, defeating Youngstown State, Milwaukee and Green Bay. Butler currently has the inside track to first place in the league standings with a 7-1 league record. Milwaukee is also 7-1, but the Dawgs defeated UWM, 3-2, on Saturday.
The Plainfield, Ind., native had 26 kills and 14 digs against Milwaukee and 23 kills and 18 digs against Milwaukee. Wolfe, an honorable mention AVCA All-American last year, credited some of her success to sophomore setter Gina Vera.
"Last week was about me getting back to the level at which I should be playing, but a key factor is Gina's setting," Wolfe said. "She and I connected very well in the matches in Wisconsin. Without her great sets, my success would be more difficult."
Butler (12-7, 7-1) hosts two league opponents this weekend at Hinkle Fieldhouse. BU hosts Valparaiso Friday, Oct. 15 and Loyola comes to Indy the next weekend. Butler has already defeated each of those teams this season.
