INDIANAPOLIS - Senior Maureen Bamiro was selected All-Midwest Region by COBRA Magazine. Bamiro, who is an All-Horizon League and AVCA All-Midwest Region player, was honored by the specialty publication for the second year in a row.
Bamiro, a Kalamazoo, Mich., native, averaged 2.84 kills and 1.05 blocks per set in leading Butler to its fourth straight winning season. An efficient offensive player in addition to her blocking prowess, Bamiro's .305 hitting percentage ranked fourth in the Horizon League. The 6-2 middle finished her Butler career fifth in school history in total blocks and ninth in blocks per set (1.05).
Bamiro, who is of Nigerian descent, was voted All-Horizon League twice in her career and was an all-tourney honoree in this year's Horizon League Volleyball Championship.
COBRA Magazine's purpose is to celebrate the success of volleyball players of African as well as Samoan and Tongan descent in hopes of encouraging young girls of those ethnic groups across the country to pursue the sport.
