Brooke Ruffolo Named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS - Freshman libero Brooke Ruffolo was tabbed Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Butler volleyball team to a 3-1 record last week. It is Ruffolo's first career award.
Ruffolo, a native of Detroit suburb Farmington Hills, Mich., totaled 76 digs (5.85 per set) during Butler's four matches last week. The Bulldogs won three of four, defeating Chicago State, Elon and Austin Peay.
She averaged 6.00 digs per set during the weekend's Butler Invitational, earning all-tournament honors. Fellow freshman Kelly Kyle was also on the all-tourney team.
"I'm extremely proud of Brooke's performance this weekend. She was a huge boost to our defense all weekend long and patrolled the back court with a vengeance," head coach Sharon Clark said of her freshman libero. "Her potential is unlimited and she will continue to come up big for our team over the next four years."
Ruffolo was at her best on Friday against Elon, making 33 digs in Butler's 3-1 victory. Later that day, she added 19 digs in a 3-0 win against Austin Peay.
Butler (4-7) opens Horizon League play at home this weekend with a pair of matches. BU hosts Cleveland State Friday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. Youngstown State comes to Hinkle the next day at 4 p.m. Follow Butler volleyball on Twitter HERE.
