NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Erica Stahl, a 6-4 sophomore middle blocker, was selected as Atlantic 10 Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week after leading Butler to a 3-1 record last week.
Stahl, an Indianapolis native, posted 25 total blocks in Butler's four matches last week, good for 1.79 per set. She also contributed 1.07 kills per set on offense.
"We are very excited for Erica to be recognized by the conference for her tremendous blocking," head coach Sharon Clark said. "She is a tireless worker at the middle blocker position and it shows in her stats."
After making five blocks in a 3-0 blowout at Wright State last Tuesday, Stahl put up nine stops at the net in a 3-2 win over Southeast Missouri State on Friday. That same evening, she had five blocks in a loss to UC-Davis. Stahl finished the week with six blocks to help Butler beat Kent State 3-0 last Saturday night.
Stahl, who is in her first season at Butler after transferring from Cincinnati, currently leads the Atlantic 10 with 1.48 blocks per set. She has 6+ blocks in seven different matches this season, including two outings with nine blocks.
Butler finished its non-conference matches with a 10-4 record. A-10 play begins this weekend when BU travels to Dayton and Xavier.
