KINGSTON, R.I. - The Bulldogs stifled Rhode Island into .021 hitting as the Butler volleyball team rolled past URI 3-0 on Saturday night. The win capped a successful weekend for BU, which swept Fordham the previous night.
Butler won all three sets over the Rams by sizable margins. After winning 25-20 in the first set, BU routed URI 25-13, 25-14 the rest of the night. The Bulldogs led by double digits in each set.
BU's most decisive period of the night was in the second, when the Bulldogs hit .321. Butler led 5-1 and would soon take an easy 2-0 match lead. The Bulldogs then turned up the defense in the third set, holding URI to -.036 hitting.
Butler (14-11, 4-7) returns to Hinkle Fieldhouse next weekend to take on La Salle and Temple. Three matches remain in the regular season, and all of them are at home.
