Dawn Jones is in her third season with the Butler volleyball program in 2011 as an assistant coach.
Jones had an immediate impact in her first season at BU, helping the team to a 21-14 overall record. The Bulldogs went 9-0 at home and 10-6 in the Horizon League.
She brings with her coaching experience from the Division I and club levels, as well as a decorated high school and collegiate playing career. Jones came to Butler after spending two years as a sixth grade teacher at St. Anastasia Catholic School in Fort Pierce, Fla. During that time, she served as the club director and head coach for the 16U Rampage Juniors club team.
Prior to entering the teaching field, Jones served as a student assistant coach for her alma mater Delaware State during the 2006 season while also serving as head coach of the Central Delaware Volleyball Club. She earned her first coaching position in 2004 as the head coach of the Indian River Juniors Volleyball Club.
Despite playing just two seasons at Delaware State, the former Dawn Alford finished as the program's career record holder with 2,190 assists. As the Hornets' starting setter both years, she went on to tally the top-two single-season assist totals in school history, posting 1,122 in 2004 before notching 1,068 in 2005. Her 285 digs in 2004 also rank as the sixth-most all-time.
Jones' performance both on the court and in the classroom garnered her Academic All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference honors in 2004 and 2005. She also served as the Delaware State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President, was a nominee for NCAA Academic Excellence and Service Award and was a member of the Alpha Chi Honor Society.
Before moving to Delaware State, Jones spent two seasons at Indian River Community College, where she was tabbed to the all-conference freshman team in 2002 and all-conference second team in 2003. She was also named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-State Academic Team and was a nominee for the Phi Theta Kappa All-USA Academic Team.
Jones received her Bachelor's Degree in Middle School Education from Delaware State in 2007 after earning an Associate's Degree from Indian River.
