Late Rally Falls Short As Xavier Tops Bulldogs, 3-1

Cincinnati, Ohio - Sophomore outside hitter Porshia Allen tallied her first double-double of the season, ripping a team-high 12 kills and adding 10 digs, but host Xavier put the Bulldogs in a 2-0 hole before holding on for a close decision in the third game in claiming a 30-26, 30-22, 33-31 victory at Cintas Center on Tuesday (August 28).

Butler falls to 1-3 on the season, while the Musketeers stay perfect at 4-0.

The Bulldogs led by as much as six points in the opening game, leading 15-9 at one point, before the Musketeers rallied on a 15-6 run to take a 24-21 advantage and hold on for the win.

After leading throughout the second game to go up 2-0, the Musketeers pushed ahead late in the third contest before the Bulldogs came back to take a 28-27 lead. Butler would have its opportunities to force a game four in the match, inducing three game points, but Xavier would get a pair of clutch kills late to claim a 33-31 decision.

Allen, who finished with a third of the team's kills, hit .190 on the night (12 kills, 4 errors, 42 attempts) to pace the Bulldogs on offense, while freshman Katie Daprile added seven kills and 10 digs.
