El Paso, Texas - Sophomore Jessica Wolfe tallied double-figure kills for the second-straight match, but Oral Roberts held the Bulldogs to just a .170 hitting percentage in the match in handing Butler a 3-0 defeat in the Sun Bowl Volleyball Invitational on Saturday (August 30) afternoon.
The loss moves the Bulldogs to 1-1 on the year, while ORU improves to 2-0.
Oral Roberts hit .303 in the match with 39 kills while holding the Bulldogs below .200.
Butler staked itself to an early lead in the opening set, jumping out to a 9-7 advantage, but the Golden Eagles rallied for the deciding points late, including a 6-1 trek to close the set.
It was more of the same in the second set for the Bulldogs, as a 6-5 Butler lead turned into a 10-6 deficit as ORU rolled out to a 2-0 advantage in the bout.
Butler showed some heart in the third set, rallying from a 16-13 shortcoming to bring the score even at 16 all, but four straight points by ORU would give it a lead it would not relinquish.
Butler closes out the Sun Bowl Invitational tonight (August 30) when it takes on NJIT beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET.
