Butler Begins Cornell Invitational with Win Over Colgate

Butler rallied from a first-game loss to turn in a dominating performance in beating Colgate, 3-1, in the opening match of the Cornell Invitational in Ithaca, N.Y. Junior Susana Henri posted a career-high 19 kills to go along with 18 digs for a double-double and senior libero Megan Knightly had 27 digs to lead the Butler effort. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 4-5 on the season, while Colgate falls to 1-9.
The Bulldogs dropped the first game, 30-27, before rebounding with 30-15, 30-18, 30-25 decisions to take the four-game match. It was a solid match all-around for the Bulldogs, who got nine kills and 10 digs from sophomore Michelle DeGeeter.
Senior Candice Washington had a match-high six blocks, while Krystal Hendrix and Alicia Coltrane added 12 and nine kills, respectively. Junior Laura White got the nod at setter and had 45 assists to go along with 14 digs. She helped the Bulldogs to a .226 hitting percentage, compared to Colgate's .101 mark.
Katrina Zawojski led Colgate with 19 kills. Jackie Adlam had 36 digs in the loss.
The Bulldogs return to action at the invitational Saturday with matches against the host Big Red and La Salle.
