The Bulldogs got off to a quick start Friday night at Loyola and never looked back. The 30-21, 30-25, 31-29 win in the Horizon League opener improved the Bulldogs to 9-6 on the year, while Loyola drops to 5-9. Junior Kali Carter posted a double-double for the Bulldogs with 12 kills and 16 digs.
Areal Bienemey led the Bulldogs with 13 kills on .524 (13-2-21) hitting. Senior setter Amanda Matthews had 39 assists and 11 digs on the night. Freshman Alyssa Cress once again led the team in digs with 17, while Chicago native Megan Knightly had a good night with eight kills and ten digs.
Nichol Amberg led the Ramblers with 12 kills and 13 digs. Loyola hit at a .158 (51-27-152) clip, compared to the Bulldogs' .279 (52-14-136) mark. The Ramblers have nearly doubled their loss total from 2002 when the team posted a 27-5 record en route to winning the Horizon League regular season championship.
Butler stays in Chicago to take on another Horizon League opponent, UIC, Saturday at 4 p.m. The Flames dropped their league opener 3-2 to Wright State Friday.
