Chicago - Freshman Katie Daprile and senior Michelle DeGeeter each tallied 20 kills and double-figure digs as the Bulldogs raced out to a 2-0 lead at Loyola before holding on for a 30-26, 30-26, 28-30, 28-30, 15-13 victory at Alumni Gym on Tuesday (Oct. 2) evening.
Butler had to play catch-up through the first half of the opening game, as the Bulldogs trailed 16-14 before a 4-0 surge put them up in the game for good. Butler again found itself looking up at the Ramblers throughout much of the second contest as Loyola led by as much as 20-17 late before the Bulldogs strung together a 7-1 run to go up 24-21 and hang on for the 2-0 lead at the break.
Loyola managed to make its early leads stand up in the third and fourth games of the night, as the Bulldogs were unable to seal the match victory despite battling the Ramblers till the final points.
The Bulldogs finally turned the tables in the fifth game, however, as Butler went ahead 9-3 and hung on for the final points to claim the match.
Butler continued its recent blocking success, finishing with double-figure totals for the sixth time in the last seven matches with 15.
Daprile put together her most dominant match of her young career against the Ramblers, hitting .300 (20-5-50) while adding 14 digs for her fourth double-double of the year. DeGeeter, meanwhile, hit .245 (20-7-53) in the match while posting 18 digs and seven blocks. Sophomore Brittany Awai registered her fourth double-double, dishing 15 assists while adding 12 digs.
Sophomore Porshia Allen added 12 kills and seven blocks, while freshman Jalesa Lee continued to be a force to be reckoned with at the net, adding a team-high eight blocks. Junior Nina Inic paced the team with 21 digs, while junior Dana Daprile led the way with 39 assists.
Butler finishes up its stay in Chicago on Wednesday (Oct. 3) when it takes on UIC beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET.
