The Bulldogs fell from the ranks of the Horizon League unbeaten Friday night, dropping a tough, five-game decision at UW-Green Bay. The loss puts the Bulldogs 14-7 overall and 5-1 in league play. The Phoenix improve to 15-5 with a matching 5-1 conference mark behind Janelle Tomlinson, who had 24 kills and 28 digs on the night. Junior Kali Carter led the Bulldogs with 18 kills.
Butler won the first game by a score of 30-25 before dropping consecutive 32-30 stanzas to the Phoenix. The Bulldogs regrouped to win the fourth game, 30-28, before falling in the deciding game, 15-13. The Phoenix held the Bulldogs to .092 (63-41-240) hitting on the night, including .022, .017 and .037 marks in the three games the Phoenix won. UW-Green Bay hit .137 (80-45-255) for the match.
Carter also had 21 digs for the visitors. Senior setter Amanda Matthews had 50 assists and 24 digs, while Alyssa Cress and Megan Knightly posted 25 and 24 digs, respectively. Krystle Lange had 19 kills and 21 digs in the win for UW-Green Bay.
The Bulldogs won't have much time to recover, as they continue their Wisconsin trip. The team travels to Milwaukee for a match against the Panthers Saturday at 5 p.m. After UWM's 3-0 win over Wright State Friday night, they are undefeated in league play (6-0) and have won seven straight matches.
